Victory for Troubled Youth

Mommies can’t be daddies, and daddies can’t be mommies, children need both!”, proclaimed Brother Ralph Stokes to the Sunday evening crowd at Gospel Light. Brother Stokes is canvasing local churches for the purpose of encouraging ministry to troubled youth. “Victory for Troubled Youth” is the name of his mission to the juvenile delinquents of America. He has been preaching to kids since 1995, starting in his home state of Alabama. His concern locally is the Industry School in Rush.

We were presented with a short video presentation of the sad story of juvenile detention centers. Brother Stokes hit the nail on the head when he stated that “the problem isn’t the kids, the problem is the home.” His ministry aims to put a King James Bible into the hands of every boy and girl, where hopefully the Word will reach their hearts. Brother Stokes preached out of the books of Joshua and Judges, encouraging saved Christians to choose to hear God’s voice and get busy doing His will. He reminded that will be judged not for what we did, but why we did those things. The evening ended with a question and answer period where we learned more about what these troubled youth face in their lives.

“Preparation for the Time”

Note: Portions of this article have been edited. With a surprise visitor present, Pastor Vince Giardino reminded us, by reading Psalm 100, to be joyful and thankful to the Lord. And how could we not be after a blessed weekend at Gospel Light, which included the much anticipated (and highly successful) Youth Rally this past Friday evening. Our Pastor called for individual testimonies of thanks from his flock and many gladly spoke.

As mentioned, this was a evening and we were greatly blessed by the presence of one of our church’s great friends, Charlie B. Most of us know his younger brother, the local piano teacher Brad, with whom many among us have taken lessons from.

With great admiration for his evident passion for the Israeli people, we listened to Charlie detail his plan to return to the that nation with his wife and family in order to pursue charity work.

The lights were dimmed, the big screen lowered and a slide presentation was given of Charlie’s previous visit to Jerusalem. We saw many Israeli people and the streets of Jerusalem. He gave testimonies of the many doors opened in Israel and of the people he interacted with to spread the gospel message. His method of approach on the streets is that of engaging in conversation. He spoke of how Orthodox Jews are very well versed in the Old Testament. Likewise however, the entire Bible to our missionary friend is as familiar to him as the alphabet. Thus, with intelligence and Spirit-driven compassion, Bro. Charlie was often able to direct the conversation to Christ and His sacrifice. “Jews require a sign”, Charlie said, and showing you care about the people and their country is surely a sign that works.

Charlie began a sermon from the book of Esther (2:7-8,10, 4:13-15), that he titled “Preparation for the Time”. We read how Esther, blessed with beauty and grace from God, went from a slave to being chosen queen of Persia. God had prepared Esther for this purpose. God brought her to a place in time where she could help save the scattered nation of Israel. It was hard to misunderstand where the sermon was going: God will put each of us in a position to do something for His glory and purpose … if we allow it. We were warned that our potential to do God’s purpose is diminished, if not destroyed, by our bad testimony. With sin and skeletons in our closet, then there can be no glory for God.

Thus, how do we get to that place where we can fulfill God’s purpose for us? How can we be sure that we will be able to do what God wants us to do with the position He puts us in? We were given a four step process to “Prepare for the Time”:

  1. Daily Devotions – Daily reading greatly help to stay in the Lord. God to speaks to us through His Word.
  2. Careful Communication – Read Titus 2:1-2. We need to watch our speech, keeping it sound and pure. Be discreet even in computer texts and tweets. “People are going to want to find a reason you are dirty”, we were told.
  3. Strive for Mastery – Whatever you do for the Lord, do it well. And with everything you do, do it as a testimony for Christ.
  4. Realize Our Purpose – Read Rev 4:11. The purpose of our creation is to please God. “Our goal should be to live every single day for God … we serve a higher being”, Brother Charlie taught.

It is not hard to appreciate and admire the man, Charlie B. But he would be the first to tell you to appreciate and admire our Lord, who is working through this faithful man to bring the truth to foreign lands. Nevertheless, thank you Charlie for choosing to let God work in you.

Street Preaching at Lyell & Howard Roads

 by Darryl Marcoux

Saturday April 7th we at GLBBC went out preaching at the corner of Lyell and Howard roads. It was a bright but very cold morning. There must have been 13 disciples from GLBBC there sharing the good news that Christ Jesus has died for our sins and given us a way to gain entrance to the Heavenly plains which we do not deserve.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Such a fine message but there are people out there that totally reject such a message. Me, I don’t understand why they reject the message. Why would anyone be angry with a person who lived a perfect life? He did not hurt anyone, indeed He healed them! He showed by example how we should live our lives and attempted to show the pharisees the error of their ways. Nonetheless, they rejected Jesus ways as they do today.

All thirteen of us had personal experiences but I can only speak for myself: holding a sign on the southeast corner of Lyell Ave. People drove by me and with their windows rolled up all the way would yell at me negatively. Some take offense to such a reaction but Jesus said, “Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also” John 15:20. I prayed, “Thank you Lord, for that person was convicted in his or her heart”.  Otherwise why such a reaction for simply reading a sign? Take heart people of GLBBC.

Come join us for street preaching and door knocking Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays! You will have an experience that you will not soon forget, plus another benefit you aren’t even thinking about, by obedience to what Jesus commanded you to do (Matt 28:19,20), you gain treasure in Heaven for your obedient nature! You cannot lose, you’re in a win-win situation if there ever was one!

House to House Ministry

House to House Lessons
taught by
Steve D & Gabriel G
written by Darryl M.

I recently attended the H2H class given at Gospel Light March 26th taught by Steve and Gabriel. There were Eight participants who benefited at this class, nice job men! I recommend that if you plan to knock on doors this year that you get your hands on the notes or better yet ask Steve and Gabriel for another opportunity in a classroom setting. It was a rich experience being it prepares you for things to come while knocking on strangers doors.

I was especially encouraged by such a small number of participants taking in account that our church is a bible believing church and many members already are prepared for door knocking; as our church is obedient to the scriptures IE: Matt 28:19&20 where we are commanded by Jesus to go out and spread the Gospel throughout the world!

There are three opportunities for door knocking this year. Tuesday evenings, Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons, plus there will be special days set aside for Rochester events. These events will mostly be Saturday mornings and will be announced well in advance. I’ll be looking forward to seeing many of us out there ‘saving souls’ for Jesus and fulfilling our Christian duty by being obedient to Jesus. Amen

Ladies Fellowship

This evening ( Sept 9), our ladies gathered to fellowship. We sang a couple of songs and then got down to business. Our speaker, Mrs. Terri McDonald, was willing and ready to speak to us and help us to better see what God wants for us.

Her message, I’ll call it ‘Downsizing,’ was about surrender. If you missed it, GET THE CD! Everyone, especially the women, needs to hear this message of faith. We hang on to too much baggage in our lives and are not willing to relinquish the strongholds that really keep us from doing the Lord’s will.

Our time together was sweet. Ladies, please try to include yourself in these meetings. It’s so important to gather and fellowship with one another. You are missing out!

This past weekend there were quite a few things going on, but one of them was the Kings Kids first HOBO DAY!
So we whipped up a little video for those of you who were not able to see some of these kids and their hilarious outfits.

Our Man on the Street Preaching: Gabriel Gonzalez 6-17-10

We had a great time passing out tracts and holding signs for people to see. I am always blessed to see young people take the time to be a witness. There are so many things they could be doing, but they choose to reach out to our community to tell them about Jesus. Thank you all for your tremendous testimony.

While we were out, we saw Rey and Roberto Caletz driving the billboard truck around town. What a sight! It was like rolling in the heavy tanks and blasting away. No one can compete with that not even Dancing Derek!!

Please continue to pray for this necessary ministry. Pray for Derek as he is exposed to the gospel every week as he dances for his boss, Little Caesars Pizza.

Gospel Light Lawn Care Ministry

For anyone wanting to learn or assist on building and property maintenance, see Paul Schreiner (or contact him at 269-4495). There is much to be done. Please consider sharing in the blessing for caring for and maintaining God’s House of Prayer. Paul is willing to train you on landscaping, mosquito control, mold remediation, steps needed to clean an area to be able to pass a health department inspection, window washing, etc.

Patch the Pirate Club

Every Wednesday night, at 6:45 PM, Gospel Light Bible Baptist Church holds a meeting of the children’s Patch the Pirate Club, or simple Patch Club. The second floor school rooms are used while moms and dads are in the sanctuary for Wednesday night service. The boys and girls belonging to the club receive Sailor’s Log spiral-bound workbooks, which are divided into units and are used to conduct club activities. The units include godly lessons, songs, plays, fun pages, and much, much more. This club program has been created especially to help children come to Christ and grow in His love and is exciting and rewarding. GLBBC would like to encourage the children of our church families to participate in Patch the Pirate Club.

Sailor’s Salute: I pledge allegiance to the Lord Jesus Christ, Whose name I love and Whose praise I sing. As a faithful sailor in Patch the Pirate Club, I will do my best to serve my Savior and obey His Word.

GLBBC Library Catalog

Most of us who attend Gospel Light have seen the church’s beautifully refurbished library on the second floor. Most of us may also be aware of the sizable number of books, Christian or otherwise, on the library shelves. However, this church member was recently made aware that the books are now listed in an electronic catalog. Darryl Marcoux, under the direction of Lori Giardino, entered the title, author and category of each of the books into a Excel Spreadsheet, creating our first edition of the GLBBC Library Catalog. Thanks to Darryl and Lori, you may now have access to the well over 200 books in our church library. As Darryl stated to me in his e-mail, “the library is a place of solitude, low or no distractions, comfortable seating and ample lighting for your reading pleasure. The book availability is mostly Christian based but political subjects, home schooling instructional books, and health issue books are also available!” Attached is a copy of the most recent catalog (as of 03-14-10) for you to download and browse: GLBBC Library Catalog

Put on the Whole Armor of God

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Eph 6:10-18 (KJV)

Helmet – Salvation protecting the intellect

Breastplate – Righteousness protecting the heart

Belt – Truth protecting the seat of physical strength

Feet – Readiness generated by the gospel of peace

Shield – Faith providing additional protection

Sword – Spirit, which is the word of God, the ultimate offensive weapon

Life as a PK

Well hello and welcome to a new mini series for the blog.
“Life as a Pastors Kid” is snippets written by Michael Giardino on life in the ministry serving with his parents.
Stay tuned!

Nursing Home Ministry

The Nursing Home Ministry here at Gospel Light Bible Baptist Church is being lead by one of our church’s most involved members, brother Jeremiah Rodell. I wish to shine a bright spot-light on this ministry because it reaches out beyond our four church walls. The ministry reflects our Pastor’s call to be “Fishers of Men” in 2010. Thus, here is Jeremiah’s explanation of the ministry (with slight editing by me).

My goal for the Nursing Home Ministry is to do the following:

– Bring Christ into their lives through church services and personal visits,

– Show God’s love for them through a consistent testimony and witness,

– Encourage those residents who are saved to live for God,

– Evangelize those residents who are not saved,

– To let the residents know that God still cares for them and has a purpose for them.

We go to Wedgewood Nursing Home located at 5 Church St, Spencerport, NY.

We have wonderful volunteers from the church including many of our children from GLBBC, as well as our teens, who enjoy going and being a blessing.

We have had visits to the nursing home in 2010 on January 2nd and 16th. Our next visit is planned for February 27th at 1 PM. We meet right at Wedgewood.

Some of the residents we have come to know are Rita, Hazel, Violet, Margret, Mary, Lorraine, Ruth, and Doug.

Will you consider joining us?

Did you know…?

Men’s Prayer Meetings on Saturday evenings is no longer just for men. We now call it the “Saturday Evening Prayer Meeting” and it is open for anyone who wishes to come. Join us at 6 p.m. each Saturday as we call upon the Lord for his needs of the church and family.

What happens at a prayer meeting? Well, we all meet in the second floor library at GLBBC and gather around the table. Pastor Vince asks each of us in turn for prayer requests. Many of us write them down as they are given. Once we have gone around the table, we kneel and bow our heads for prayer. Pastor then asks a few us, one at a time, to lead in prayer, as the requests are verbally rendered unto our Lord. Pastor will close in prayer, adding his requests along with ours. The rest is easy; we wait with faith to witness the power of prayer in our lives and in those who we prayed for.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Heb 11:6

Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. Gal 6:2

Can you use this….

Good evening to all Gospel Light brothers and sisters:

At last week’s Sunday school, Pastor Vince split us off into 4 separate groups, two for the women and two for the men. Each group discussed bible verses and methods in which to evangelize, with Rey leading the group I was in. We all took notes and after arriving home, I made a spreadsheet with the bible verses. Most were from the “Romans Road” leading to salvation, but other verses are included as well.

Would anyone find this spreadsheet useful? It is being posted up here on the blog for downloading:
