Is Preaching Against Homosexuality a Hate Crime?

Our pastor has, in the recent past, lamented the loss of a church family from the congregation due to the church’s biblical stand on homosexuality. This tidbit of information inspired this clueless blogger to conduct a bit of research involving free speech and homosexuality. In August of 2009, President Obama signed into law the “Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Act”. The law makes it a federal crime to assault an individual because of his or her sexual orientation or gender identity. Much confusion, misinformation, exaggerations, and unfounded claims have come about regarding what this law actually means.
