Matthew 4:18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.
Jesus saw two brothers Peter and Andrew fishing, and He merely said to them “follow me and I’ll make you fishers of men”. Notice they didn’t even have to think about it, they left their nets and followed Him.
We as born again Bible believing Christians need to be the same way. We need to drop our nets (the things that keep us glued to this world) like our TVs, CDs, DVDs, MP3s etc. and follow Him. If you follow Him, He says He’ll make you fishers of men, and you can start in 2010.
In our Sunday Morning Bible Studies and Wednesday Night Services The Pastor has been showing us The Way Of The Master Film Series. This series of films are great tools for showing us as a church how to be effective fishers of men. And Gospel Light is filled with the nets you need to become great fishers of men.
We have Saturday morning visitation where we go house to house sharing the Good News with people in our area.
Acts 2:46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
Acts 20:20 And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have showed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house,
21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
As you can see going house to house as Christians is something we should be doing. Door knocking is a great net to use to reach our Jerusalem (Gates), and be good fishers of men.
The Lord laid it upon Jeremiah’s heart to start a nursing home ministry.
James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
Matthew 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
The King here is of course Jesus, and the Bible shows us that when we take the time to visit these people in nursing homes, prisons, hospitals etc. we do it to Him. The nursing home ministry is another great net we have here at Gospel Light to reach the lost for Christ, and to make us better fishers of men. Talk to Jeremiah Rodell if you would like to help out with this ministry.
Gabriel Gonzalez and myself will be starting up the street preaching ministry again in April.
Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Jesus tells us to go and preach the gospel. Can you imagine the impact we as a church would have on the town of Gates if a dozen or more of us were out holding up scripture signs, passing out tracts and preaching on Lyell and Howard every Thursday. Our street preaching ministry is another great net to cast out upon our sea (Gates) to become better fishers of men.
There are countless ways for all of us at Gospel Light to become great fishers of men in 2010.
- Help out in one of our outreach ministries.
- Pass out tracts to people you see during the week.
- Visit your neighbors, show yourself friendly.
- Invite your neighbors and coworkers to church.
- Just cast out nets and God will bring in the fish.
Let’s truly make 2010 the year that all of us at Gospel Light become Great Fishers Of Men.
