Adult Sunday school, 12-05-10, at Gospel Light saw Grayson K. and Steve D. each have a turn at walking through the New Testament time line at the white board in front of class. Pastor Giardino noted the differences in each walk-through, saying each person will have their own perspective of what to touch on and way of presenting the highlights. An important function of the time line is “understanding how things are through the ages”, explained Pastor G.
Pastor Giardino took a few minutes to read to us a poem (circa 1993) by Perry Rockwood, a pastor who founded the Peoples Gospel Hour radio show. The theme was contrasting the book of Genesis with the book of Revelation. For example, Genesis is the book of beginnings and Revelation is the book of the end.
Pastor G. stressed the importance of “rightly dividing the Word of God”. He said, “Christianity is always full of wingnuts who pervert the Word of God.” His example was churches that misinterpret Eph 4:11-12, where offices of the early church were defined. “This age hinges on heresies”, our pastor said. One mistake churches make is with apostolic succession, which ended in the early church. Pastor reminded us of what is written in I Cor 13:10, “But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.” Authority was passed on to the maturing church and sign gifts were done away with. Regarding the churches that practice signs, Pastor G. said, “It’s all flesh”. The perfecting of the saints is maturity, not signs.
